Anoka-Hennepin Alternative Programs

Anoka-Hennepin  is the third largest district in the state of Minnesota.  District #11 has entered into a new phase of program development to better meet the needs of a growing and diverse population.
Currently there are four program locations including; Crossroads, Andover Downtown Center, Champlin Plaza, University Creek and Anoka Quality Program.

Crossroads

Crossroads is a comprehensive alternative high school with 20 teaching and 5 support staff that works with 200 student during the day program, five day a week.  Late afternoon and evening classes are also available.

Unique Characteristics of Crossroads
 -flexible schedules, full-time, part-time, independent study
 -classes available Monday through Friday during the day, and nights (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday)
 -transportation available on regular school bus routes
 -limited transportation to student’s work site
 -limited special transportation for teen parents
 -on site day care for children of students who attend the school
 -teen parenting program on site in addition to day care
 -breakfast and lunch program available
 -support staff- CD counselor, psychologist, health para, nurse, deans
 -licensed staff in all required subjects
 -additional elective classes besides work experience in the area of consumer family science, art , phy ed and health
 -a 1 to 15 teacher to student ratio

Store Fronts

The store fronts are smaller in size and are located around District #11.  They offer  four classes in a three hour session morning, afternoon and evening for groups of 20 students each.  They utilize technology, community service and work experience to enhance student learning.

Unique characteristics of the Storefronts
 -operate on a four day school week Monday through Thursday with work experience, community service, and independent study on Fridays
            -operate with three different sessions of twenty students per session, morning, after noon and evening
 -class time consists of four, 45 minute classes and students participate in three hours of work experience and community service activities each day
 -staff consist of special education teachers and work experience teachers who have content licensure.  Additional content specific teachers work at night along with some of the full-time staff however not all content areas are represented at each sight
 -technology is used to augment content instruction particularly in the areas of math and science
 -the teacher ratio is about 1 to 10 per section so students are closely supervised and tend to be engaged in learning with fewer discipline issues

Anoka Quality Program

 This is a new experimental program which started in January  1999, designed to service at-risk students in an afternoon program, following the regular school day from 2:45 to 6:30.  This program has a strong business partnership connection.  The classes are taught in the context of a business theme and students work in local companies during the day.
