Internet Search Tools
Select a search engine:
Your Internet browser will select one for you if you click search
on the tool bar or you can select your own by entering the URL in the
address space. My favorites are listed below. I use these because they
more than one search engine at a time so I have to do fewer searches.
www.dogpile.com
www.google.com
www.metacrawler.com
The search engine has a space for entering the subject you want. For instance
if I enter resume to do a search in Google, I get 476,000
matches. Thats a lot of sites! If I add the word writing,
it narrows it to 22,300 matches. Try different combinations of words and
different ways of stating the subject you want.
The sites that match your search will be listed on your
screen. The top line will be hypertext that can take you to the site and
beneath that will be some keywords that matched your search. The bottom
line will be the URL for that site.
Try different search engines. If I search Metacrawler
for the word resume I get 70 matches. If I add the word writing,
I get 78 matches. You see that different search engines use different
criteria when they search.
These sites will link you to related sites.
